-Your Hearty 1,000 yen will bring 30 disaster victims a bottle of water
-
Firstly, I would like to express my hearty sympathy with the sufferers of the unprecedented severe earthquake in Tohoku area on March 11.
It must be very hard for people who haven’t been able to contact with their family and friends in the afflicted area.
Moreover, I offer my deepest condolences to those who died in the disaster.
I have been painfully aware of the horrors of natural disaster through my own experience and later media coverage.
I experienced the Great Hanshin Earthquake and had lived in evacuation centers for subsequent several months.
Although I have planned and prepared for everything like soup kitchen, food aid and so on soon after the earthquake, I determined that it is too early at this time because there are a number of problems like logistics, fuels and nuclear plants.
However, I cannot help just staying quiet.
I want to deriver our thoughts and really-required relief supplies 100% directly to the afflicted people, and want that supplies to contribute to the people’s lives there.
Therefore, to surely deriver what one really need, we were required reasonable idea and preparations.
I have been an adviser of the United Nations World Food Programme “WFP”, and learned a lot like “What do people need in a time of disaster?”, “How is the situation there?” and “Can supplies be accurately delivered?”
I launch a brand-new support project with my own idea for the areas destroyed by the Great Tohoku Earthquake.
Even though so many monetary donations for disaster victims have launched at the moment, the support I’m thinking is not like that.
It’s the provision of the requisite materials.
I established “HAL YAMASHITA Drinking Water to the Disaster Area! Fund” to support the disaster victims.
This is the support which deliver bottles of water partly at the expense of those of you who have the feeling like “I have to do something for the afflicted people”.
I told my feeling with entreaty to Mr. Takaharu Nakamura, the president of Oku Nagaragawa Meisui Kabushiki Kaisha of Gifu Prefecture, who has provided the natural mineral water of our company.
Mr. Nakamura has given us a ready consent, and worked this project together as a partner in his busy schedule.
A lot of monetary donation would bring local government’s reconstruction and disaster victims’ recovery from now.
Also, sometime in future, temporary housings would be built and lifelines would be restored.
However, those take a considerable amount of time.
I consider what the most essential thing is, as a person involved in food which is the basis for human life.
Is there anything can be stored for a long time without refrigeration with insufficient lifeline, and be equally delighted by a lot of people?
The answer was “Water”.
We have asked for the preparation of 25,000 bottles of 500ml natural mineral water (about 1,5 tons) with the original label printing “relief supplies” and our message “Tohoku, you can do it! We are supporting you from all over Japan!” and message URL.
We are now preparing this amount, and there is already a system for production increase.
Furthermore, for the purpose that we could receive a lot of support for this project, we offer support in kind like “How many bottles?”, not “How much money?”.
I think it’s the only way that we can deliver your hearty support message 100% to disaster victims.
Our action (of workers of our company and Oku Nagaragawa Meisui Kabushiki Kaisha) is all voluntarily, and we do this support action without including all expenses like operating cost or service charge.
Water must be vital commodity and wouldn’t go to waste.
In this confusion, goods would face the extraordinary situation after entering into the afflicted areas.
However, disposable bottle is sanitary, and it can surely deliver our feelings.
For those who drink it immediately, for those who stock it for future, for any use, its value would be sustained without resale.
After the application period for about 4 weeks, it’ll be delivered to the disaster areas.
Supporter’s copayment cost
(Example)
30 bottles → 1,000 yen
60 bottles → 2,000 yen
90 bottles → 3,000 yen
300 bottles → 10,000 yen
Though you can purchase as many bottles as you like, please purchase in units of 1,000 yen (30 bottles).
